Description

For industrial control and high-reliability applications, the DM6854HR offers a powerful combination of digital I/O resources on one board. Isolated I/O consists of an 8-bit programmable digital input port and a 4-bit open-collector Opto-isolator output port. These lines can be used to safely interface to industrial equipment where ground loops or high voltages exist.

The Opto-isolated digital inputs also have programmable interrupt and strobe functions. Bits can be masked and inverted to generate a hardware interrupt and an external strobe on an output connector, relieving the host PC from polling the input port. This function is extremely useful when monitoring for a specific condition on one or any of the inputs.

The DM6854HR also offers general purpose non-isolated digital I/O on 24 digital I/O lines. These can be used to drive LEDs or LCD character displays, read button or switch inputs, etc. The I/O lines are 8255 compatible and are grouped into three ports. Each port has a jumper for an optional pull-up or pull-down resistor network.

Two I/O connectors are used. Non-isolated digital I/O is handled by a 50 pin header on the right side of the board. Isolated digital inputs and outputs can either use discrete, screw terminal wire connectors or a DIL header for flat cable interfacing.
